The Art of Rest: A Monthly Restorative Practice

When did you last truly rest?

We don't mean sleeping, scrolling on the couch, or a vacation spent answering emails. We mean the kind of rest where your body lets go completely, your breath slows on its own, and your mind finally goes quiet.

For most of us, it has been a long time. We have been taught to push, achieve, and keep going. We are very good at doing. We have forgotten how to simply be.

That is why we are happy to offer a new monthly class: The Art of Rest, a monthly restorative yoga practice.

What happens in your body

When the body feels fully supported, it stops bracing. The nervous system shifts out of fight or flight and into rest and digest, the state in which the body repairs itself. Your heart rate slows. Your breath deepens. Muscles that have been guarding for weeks begin to soften. This is the state in which true healing happens, and most of us rarely visit it.

What you will take with you

  • A deep calm that stays with you for days, not minutes

  • Easier, deeper sleep

  • Relief from tension in the neck, shoulders, hips and lower back

  • A quieter mind, and a gentler way of meeting stress

  • The felt memory of what rest is, so you can find your way back to it on your own

Why you need a restorative practice

We treat rest as a reward we earn once everything else is done. But everything else is never done. Rest is not a luxury. It is the ground that everything else in your life stands on: your energy, your patience, your creativity, your health.

A strong yoga practice needs both sides: the effort and the surrender, the sthira (steadiness) and the sukha (ease). Once a month, we honor the side we so often neglect.

And once a month is enough to change you. When you know what deep rest feels like in your body, you begin to recognize when you have drifted from it, and you know the way home.

Who this is for

Everyone. If you are tired, stressed, healing, grieving, new to yoga, or a dedicated practitioner who always pushes a little too hard, this class is for you. No experience or flexibility is needed. Come in comfortable clothes and warm socks.

When

Once a month on a Friday, 4:30 PM - 6:00 PM with Angela Strynkowski.

  • Permission to stop. Supported by bolsters and blankets, you rest in a few gentle postures held for five to ten minutes, while your nervous system shifts into deep repair. No effort and no experience needed. You will leave calm, light and deeply rested. All levels welcome.
